Ho ho ho!
It is not yet Christmas but I am making an exceptional visit to this Forum because of some terrible things that happened exactly 60 years ago. The first astronaut was launched into space. No, it was not one of your strong-armed men but a mongrel dog called Laika (Лайка; c. 1954 – November 3, 1957) from Russia.

Hers is a story worth re-telling even if it is still many weeks until Christmas. She was found wondering the streets of Moscow, taken into human care, given nice foods and nice nicknames and pampered and made to trust you the human race (I am of the elven race and boy oh boy am I glad not to be one of you). There were quite a few candidates to be the first space-woman but Laika was chosen as she was kind and calm and did not quarrel with the other dogs.
Obviously, Laika never had a say in any of this.
So she was strapped into the rocket with token provisions and she survived some minutes into the flight in fright and physical agony never understanding anything except that the people who had rescued her and given her all the reasons to trust her had strapped her down into a confined space that was her coffin. She was cremated soon after that.
With every single breath you humans take you're breathing in the same very molecules that Laika breathed, the same oxygen and nitrogen atoms and the same carbon that burned upon reentry. You're all taking in this dust of betrayal of trust.
I met the Jesus guy on Christmas many many years ago. He said many things such as this:
The "greatest world leaders" and the political demagogues know this phrase very well. They take on the strays and give them nice foods and promises of power and sex and comraderie and teach them how nice it would be if they sacrificed themselves. The leaders are very good at convincing everyone else that it is everyone else but the leaders who have to lay down their lives for the friends and the nations and the cults.
That is why you should remember Laika. She was chosen for sacrifice, so are you. She had no say, nor do you. Those who have a say become popular by making others give the sacrifice. That is the ultimate treason.
I had a good friend that died recently. He was like Jesus as he also had something to say.
It is not decent to make others do your sacrifice for you. It may be transcending love but it is indecent. Jesus should have known at least as much those millennia ago. I delivered him the gold and the myrrh and the rhetorical skills and he delivered the leaders more tools to persuade others take the sacrifice.

There is a dead mongrel dog orbiting the Earth's atmosphere and with every single breath you humans take you're breathing in her sacrifice. That was her gift for you. She delivered. What are you going to deliver?
Ho ho ho, I'll be seeing you all in December!

Sputnik 2 reentered the Earth's atmosphere 14 April 1958, at approximately 0200 hrs, on a line that stretched from New York to the Amazon. Its track was plotted by British ships and 3 “Moon Watch Observations”, from New York. It was said to be glowing and did not develop a tail until it was at latitudes south of 20 degrees North. Estimates put the average length of the tail at about 50 nautical miles.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
