[QUOTE=Seth Campbell;611359]The French helped what, the South to lose? As for Napoleon, he killed all of the royalty so he could make himself royalty, not exactly what I would call a higher motive.

Now i dont want to sound like a know it all, but Napoleon had nothing to do with the execution of the nobles of france, actually Napoleon was AGAINST the executions, and at the time Napoleon had no political power whatsoever. In fact he was living in a shabby apartment and was only able to afford eating one meal a day. How do you figure that a guy who can only afford one meal a day, maneuvered the political warfield that was France and got the royal family of France executed? Furthermore, the french people CHOSE Napoleon to lead them, now i fear some of you might come with comments like: "Wow the french chose poorly" So just to strike that down before it becomes an issue, Napoleon was a tactical genius, a political mastermind and last but certainly not least, Napoleon Bonaparte was a man of the people, he made changes that gave the average French citizen a far better life than they could possibly have had under the royal family, and talking higher motive, Napoleons "Higher motive" was the education and wellbeing of the french people. Now i dont now about you, but to me he sounds like a pretty good guy.

He was an idiot who lost every war he was ever in. His well known tactic of immediately giving up was still in use when France was attacked by Germany in World War II.

I do hate doing this, but i must, for i admire Napoleon.

He was, and remains to this day, one of the most brilliant tacticians the world has ever known. (In my opinion he is rivaled only by Alexander the Third)
Napoleon was known and respected for overcoming seemingly impossible odds.
Allow me to describe but one of many, at Austerlitz Napoleon was outnumbered 72.000 to 92.000, yet he pulled through by deliberately thinning out his right flank, making the coalition attack it, whereafter he led his forces to a glorious victory by attacking the now much weaker coalitions center.
And furthermore, Napoleon won every single war he was in, up till Waterloo.
Now here is one thing i find funny, Napoleon was the one who took away the lands of Pius 6. Who at the time was pope. I have heard a great deal of the people on this forum talk about how they dont like the pope so i simply found it odd that you wouldnt at least thank Napoleon the the deed he did. Just as you belive the French should thank the U.S.A for thier help.

If Napoleon was so successful in Austerlitz, then why is it now Dutch and not French?

                First

Here are two quotes, one on the topic of the battle itself, the other on the city Austerlitz

"The battle took place near Austerlitz (Slavkov u Brna) about 10 km (6 miles) south-east of Brno in Moravia (present day Czech Republic). The battle is often regarded as a tactical masterpiece."

                (Note "Tactical Masterpice")

"Austerlitz is a town in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Zeist, and lies about 6 km east of Zeist."

Seeing as there is quite clear disagreement on the subject lets just for the sake of avoiding unnecessary discussion, assume neither is correct.

                Second

Because, as i stated before. However horrible it is, Napoleon was eventually defeated, and a good deal of places where taken back.

Trick question. French food is very fancy and incredibly expensive, everyone knows that.
Not once in that entire paragraph did Jesus come into it. Why would we admire anyone who made French people happier and who they liked? Show me a figure who successfully upset everyone in France and I might have a chance of admiring them.

Note that Napoleon was put up against nearly all of Europe, yet maneged to stay undefeated for 22 years! (From the battle of Toulon 1793 to Waterloo 1815)

Now Ronald Reagan wasnt at war for 22 years, nor was he at war against the whole of europe. Furthermore The Cold War, really? That wasnt a real war, there was no shooting, no battles, not even a fist-fight broke out between the U.S.A and the Soviet Union, and that counts for a war? Dear me

And even if push had come to shove Ronald Reagan wouldnt actually have made any tactical decisions, thats what the Generals are for. Thusly your Ronald Reagan excuse, now has the status of broken! Now Napoleon was great, he actually lead his armies himself, unlike a certain other man whose first and last names both start with R!

And as far as the French help in the Revolutionary War is concerned, I suggest you look at THIS article. After the war, America realized that "Going to War with the French was like going Deer hunting with an accordion." (to misquote a great American) and chose instead to continue their trading with the UK, knowing that the French couldn't make Jack Squat worth having.

Alright Napoleon fanboi. First of all, Waterloo didn't happen until after Napoleon's massive defeat at the hand of the Russians. He tried Russia while trying to fight in the Iberian peninsula.

                                He lost both.

Napoleon had to raise an entire new army because he had lost over 350,000 men.

That caused Australia and Prussia to revolt against him yet again and enter a new coalition with all the German states of the old Holy Roman Empire which saw which way the wind was blowing.

They beat him and he surrendered losing the city of Paris. They exiled him and he came back to fight again. Resulting in the Battle of Waterloo.
